What's Happening at The Amish Home: April 2017

An Amish horse and buggy travel past a red barn in Holmes County Ohio

Holmes County, Ohio

Picturesque Holmes County, Ohio, is a beautiful place to spend a warm spring day, and a few members of our staff were blessed with wonderful weather on our visit in early April for the 10th Annual Ohio Hardwood Furniture Market. Nearly 100 Amish builders come to this event to display new items and bestsellers, while retailers like us meet new Amish families and visit with old friends.

Our builders outdid themselves this year. There was some really incredible new furniture! We think you’re going to love our new introductions – but there’s a catch. You remember how our furniture is built-to-order? Well, we have to wait 60-120 days for our new displays, just like our customer’s orders. We’ll announce our newest displays as they arrive – follow us on Facebook or check our New Displays page for the latest updates. However, we did luck out on two sets that were ready to ship right away. Stop in today to check out:

The Sullivan Bedroom Collection

Inspired by popular Mid-Century Modern furniture, the Sullivan bedroom furniture collection features a series of dressers, nightstands, and a chest of drawers, all with your choice of 4 bases.

Four base styles available on our Sullivan bedroom: Cove (4 metal legs), Park (Square metal trestles), Lake (angled wood trestles), and Road (round tapered legs)

Base Styles (from left to right): Sullivan Cove, Sullivan Park, Sullivan Lake, and Sullivan Road

We are displaying the Sullivan Cove style, which features a four-legged metal base in your choice color: antique brass, pewter, nickel, or black. It’s displayed in a signature wire-brushed oak in charcoal finish. These selected options give our display set an industrial look.

The Sullivan Cove bedroom set is shown with a queen bed, 72in dresser with mirror, and 5 drawer chest.

We have also ordered 3 extra nightstands, each with a different base. Once they arrive, we’ll be able to display each of the four styles in this bedroom group. In the meantime, you can check out the Sullivan Bedroom group here.

Apache Living Room Furniture Collection: TV Stand, Coffee Table, End Table, Chairside Table in Solid Brown Maple in Antique Slate

The Apache Living Room is a transitional group with a flared leg detail. It’s fresh and current enough to look great in some of our more modern stains, like the antique slate finish shown here. The tables feature an open style, with drawers and shelves to hold your odds & ends, while the TV stand has both wood doors for hiding media and glass doors for controlling your components. You can see the full collection here.

A note about the mall…

There's been so many rumors swirling about the mall, but here's the deal: The original mall owners, Zamias, basically defaulted on their loan and the bank, Wells Fargo, foreclosed on it in late 2015. It was held in receivership for a little over a year and then, back in January, that legal process ended and the mall went up for public auction - the infamous deal where Wells Fargo sold it to Wells Fargo for $100. The mall is currently for sale, and being managed by Jones Lang LaSalle in the meantime. This article from January gives a rather complete and accurate description: http://triblive.com/local/valleynewsdispatch/11779614-74/mall-sale-fargo

As for The Amish Home, we will stay open. If something happens at the mall, we will relocate. We're celebrating 15 years in business. The store owner has invested in a lot of new displays for the showroom. He has no plans to close.

It’s an exciting time for us at The Amish Home. Many homeowners are tired of low-quality imports, and our solid wood, American-produced furniture is very appealing. We hope that you’ll reach out to us with any concerns you might have. We understand that it’s scary to pay a deposit on a big purchase with a long lead time. We promise you that, despite whatever might happen with the mall, our store will fulfill absolutely every order that is placed with us. Our store has been in business for 15 years and plans to be a fixture in the community into the future, regardless of what happens with the mall.

Stop by. Reach out. Call or email. We’re here to address any of your concerns and help you find the perfect built-to-order furniture for your home.
