How to Select the Perfect Wood Kitchen Island

Almost any kitchen can benefit from adding a kitchen island! Even a small kitchen island can give you more storage, work surface, and even some extra seating. Our Amish kitchen islands come in many sizes and options and are built to order in your choice of wood, stain, and hardware.

Our kitchen island units are sold as separate cases & tops. Cases are all 24” deep, which is the same as a standard kitchen base cabinet. Widths come in two, three, or four panel sizes, and then you can choose the top size.

The kitchen island top is always bigger than the base. A simple overhand of about 1-2” on each side will give a nice finished look, but if you want to use stools for seating, you’ll need 7-10” of overhang. You can also choose to add enough overhang on the sides for extra stools.

Our kitchen islands are most commonly purchased with tile tops or with butcher block tops, however you can also choose a wood table top for your island. Any countertop can be added to your island, so you can supply an alternative top to match the rest of your kitchen if you so choose.

Just like all of our furniture, you get to choose your wood, stain, and hardware on our kitchen island units. All models are available at counter height (36”) or at bar height (42”).

A small kitchen may benefit from having a portable kitchen island. By adding 3” ball casters with brakes behind added skirting in the base, you can have a perfect rolling kitchen island. Small kitchens may also benefit from drop leaf kitchen islands.

You also get plenty of options to personalize the inside of your kitchen island design. For example, we can build your kitchen island with a trash bin. You can choose single-bin tilt-out or a double-bin slide out.

And for those who love to bake, we can add a mixer lift for easy access to your beloved stand mixer.

For added convenience, you can add a three-tier pull-out behind any door, or you can upgrade to pull-out shelves. These sliding shelves are on full-extension slides and may be used in place of any adjustable shelf or added as the bottom shelf.
