2015 has been a great year for us here at The Amish Home! We’re eternally grateful to our wonderful customers who make the choice to buy quality American furniture and support our small, local business. Before we change our calendars to 2016, we wanted to round out the year by looking at our most popular items. Gold Star: Oak with Seely Stain

A perennial favorite, oak with Seely stain is a casual look that goes great in many country and Americana style homes. Falling in the light-to-medium color range, it is mainly neutral with a slightly red undertone.

Similar colors include Fruitwood and Provincial stains. Provincial has a cooler undertone, while Fruitwood is the most neutral of the bunch. These three popular colors combined to equal more than 20% of our sales in 2015.

Honorable Mention: Cherry with Washington stain

Washington stain on cherry produces a traditional red color typical of what people envision when they say “cherry stain.” It is a medium red color, dark enough the even out the color inconsistencies inherent to the wood species, but not so dark as to cover the grain pattern.

Although Washington stain is prized on our top-grain cherry, is it interesting to note that it’s not very popular on our rustic cherry. Instead, more people choose our Michael’s stain on rustic cherry. Although both stains produce a similar red color, the Michael’s stain is a bit more translucent, meaning that more of the color inconsistencies and irregularities show through the stain. This adds to the pastoral character of the rustic cherry wood.

Gold Star, Dining Tables: Oasis Leg Table

After being dethroned by our Plank Top Table in 2014, the Oasis Leg Table has reclaimed its top spot as our most popular table. With simple tapered legs and three different top shapes available, this table fits almost any style home. It’s favored for its versatility, as it can be casual, formal, traditional, or modern, depending on the wood and stain color selected. It can be built in sizes ranging from 36” square to 48”x72” and features self-storing leaves – up to 4 will store in the table, but the builder will do as many leaves as you want!

Honorable mention, Dining Tables: Sylvan Leg Table

Offering the same options as our Oasis Leg Table, the Sylvan Leg Table came in as a close second this year. It’s turned legs lend it a distinctively country aesthetic, and as such it’s most often selected in oak. Because it’s a more casual look, it is popular in smaller sizes for kitchens.

Gold Star, Dining Chairs: Empire Chair

Available as a side chair or an arm chair, with wood seats or padded seats.

The Empire Chair is a transitional frame chair that works well with many of our Shaker and transitional dining table styles. It features tapered legs, a gently rounded top, and a curved back for lumbar support. Frame chairs are of course favored for their added strength and stability. Additionally, all frame chairs are available with your choice of wood seats or padded seats, and can be upgraded to a two-tone finish. These options are not available on our bow-back and other non-frame chair styles.

Gold Star, China Cabinet: Americana Collection

The Americana is our most versatile cabinet collection! The china cabinets are available in three sizes – two, three, or four doors, plus three corner sizes – with a selection of mix-and-match bases and tops. The three door size, for example, has five bases and four tops for a total of 20 available configurations. Furthermore, you can choose from five door/drawer styles, three crown molding styles, and four foot styles. All of these options are in addition to the standard wood, stain, and hardware choices that are always available.

Gold Star: Brooklyn Bedroom

The Brooklyn Bedroom is shown in rustic cherry

After being dethroned in 2014, the Brooklyn bedroom suite came back on top in 2015. Prized for its sleek lines combined with inset details, it’s a look that’s fresh and modern without being too trendy. This collection offers a wide choice of case pieces, like dressers, chests, and nightstands, and also includes accessory pieces like TV stands, jewelry chevals, and even rifle mirrors.

With overset beveled-edge drawers, flat panel doors, flush sides, and simple tapered feet, the English Shaker bedroom is both one of our most economical and most versatile bedroom suites. As with most of our classic shaker pieces, the simple, sleek shape takes on a new personal with each different wood/stand/hardware combination chosen.

Almost everyone who visits our showroom stops to try out our cushioned glider rockers. They are a perennial favorite gift for new mothers and elderly parents. The wraparound glider sort of hugs you as you snuggle in. Choose from a huge selection of standard and premium fabrics and leathers.

Not too plain, but certainly not ornate, our Buckhannon occasional tables are a great transitional style. With plenty of storage and several sizes to choose from, this adaptable collection looks great in so many homes! Choose statement handles, like the brushed nickel cups shown here, for a truly personal piece.

2015 actually saw a reemergence of the full entertainment wall. This wall unit is actually comprised of four different pieces: the center TV console, the center hutch, and a left and right bookcase. Like all of our entertainment units, each piece comes in several sizes, so you can build this unit to fit your needs. This unique model features angles bookcases for a signature look.

Gold Star, Desks: Country Home Roll Top

The Country Home Roll Top Desk is shown in oak

The classic roll top desk is an old favorite. The name comes from the way the cover, known as the “tambour,” rolls up & down, to hide or expose the work space. The tambour is made of thin strips of wood attached to a flexible backing. Not only is it handy for hiding a messy work surface, but the classic styling looks stately in living rooms, dining rooms, or other spaces outside a formal office. If security is an issue, a lock can be added to the tambour.
